It is impossible for the NPP to secure 300,000 votes in the V/R – Mahama

November 5, 2024
John-Mahama

Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has dismissed the possibility of the ruling New Patriotic Party securing between 300,000 and 500,000 votes in the upcoming general elections.

The former president stated that the NDC will work tirelessly to prevent this from happening.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has targeted 500,000 votes in the upcoming general elections.

This was disclosed by the Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, at a press conference.

He told journalists that the party wants to garner between 300,000 and 500,000 votes.

Speaking at the dubbed  press conference the “abuse of the electoral loyalty of the Volta Region” on 30th October 2024 at the New Patriotic Party Regional Headquarters in Ho.

“Our expectation is clear: the NPP is targeting between 300,000 and 500,000 votes in the 2024 presidential election,” he stated. “This is more than just a numerical target. It represents our conviction that the message we bring—focused on economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development—is resonating with Ghanaians.”

“This will help break the NDC’s unproductive and abusive stranglehold on the Volta Region and turn it into a battleground where the NPP and the NDC compete for votes based on programs and policies that uplift the people.”.

He declared that “it is not going to be business as usual for the NDC. The usual deception, misrepresentation of inflaming sectional differences, and the invocation of former President Rawlings as a son of Volta to derive votes. This will no longer work for the NDC,” he added.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, speaking to journalists while on a tour of the Oti Region, advised the NPP to forget about securing 300,000 votes in the Volta region.

He said the NDC wants to increase the votes it garnered in the region and the Oti Region.

John Dramani Mahama stressed that it would have widen the margin between the NDC and NPP.

He noted that the party would have to secure victory in the Greater Accra region by 300,000 votes.

Mr. Mahama said the NDC won the region by only 76,000 voters in the previous election, which was not encouraging.

“We want to increase the votes that we will get from the Volta region and the Oti region. And I am sure that if we are able to do that, we will also increase our votes in Greater Accra. Greater Accra, we won it the last time with only 76,000 votes. We need to win it by about 300,000 votes. We need to widen the gap in the Volta region. The NPP got about 100,000 votes in the Volta region the last time. We got about 800,000. We need to decrease the votes they got in the Volta region. I don’t think NPP can get 300,000 votes in the Volta region.”
