Kamal Alhassan, a research fellow at the Centre for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), believes America under Donald Trump could even end the long-running Russian-Ukraine conflict.
He believes the former President has a strong and positive relationship with President Vladimir Putin, which may help to bring the war to an end.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the researcher stated that the former president had also pledged to use his relationship with Putin to ensure the war’s end.
In the run-up to the elections, Trump repeatedly stated that he can quickly end the Russia-Ukraine war without presenting a detailed plan as the US presidential election approaches.
Kamal Alhassan believes Donald Trump’s claims may be true if he wins the elections.
He was quick to point out that Trump’s ability to end the war will also be determined by his level of influence in the Congress.
He said Trump would need to win a majority of Congress seats because Democrats support Ukraine.
”Trump will control the Executive but have no authority over Congress. The Democrats are currently supporting Ukraine, and they will continue to do so. If Kamala Harris is elected, this war will not stop. It will go on. However, if Trump is elected, the war will most likely come to an end due to his close relationship with Putin. However, he cannot make a unilateral decision. He would need Congress and the Senate to support him.”
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in what was described as Europe’s largest war since WWII.
Putin launched a “special military operation” under the pretext of securing Ukraine’s eastern territories and “liberating” Ukraine from allegedly “Nazi” leadership.
In September, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) cited intelligence and undisclosed sources to report that approximately one million Ukrainians and Russians had been killed or wounded since the war began.
