Presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to prioritise solar energy as part of efforts to reduce the cost of electricity.
He lamented that the high cost of production currently translates into hikes in electricity prices.
The Vice President made the remarks on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the Asante Akim South constituency during his campaign tour.
He also assured Ghanaian businesses of his commitment to helping them expand and employ more people.
He has also pledged to reduce the overhead expenditure of households.
“Our electricity bill has increased, and I would like to implement a policy to address this. The bill has grown since we import oil and gas to generate energy. As a result, I propose that we create electricity using solar power.
“The technology already exists, and we have enough sunlight to generate solar power. I plan to build solar farms in all districts, lowering electricity costs by 50%.”
