The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, has withdrawn from contesting in the December 7 parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
The lawmaker filed to contest as an independent candidate in the December 7 election after losing the party’s primary.
He was also one of the MPs who had his seat declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin, which was subsequently declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
The MP, in a statement, said pursuant to the decision by the High Court to clear the NDC’s parliamenatry candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, he has withdrawn from contesting the parliamenatry election.
“Pursuant to the decision by the High Court and the Electoral Commission to clear the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for this year’s election, I believe that my reasons for filing to contest the election as an independent candidate are no longer tenable.
I would like to thank the Elders of the party and other leading members of the party for their invaluable counsel that has led to this decision in the supreme interest of the party. “
