Prof. Smart Sarpong has in his latest research predicted a run-off in the December 7 presidential election with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia winning in the first round.
The research dubbed ‘Evidence from Science and Data’ overall predicted performance (Scenario 1) saw the Vice President secure 49.1 percent while his closest contender, former President John Dramani Mahama, secured 45.8 percent.
A new entrant into the presidential race and leader of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, aka Freedom Jacob Ceasar, polled 2.2 percent, beating veteran politician Alan Kyerematen, who got 1.2 percent.
Out of the 18,807,954 population, the researcher used a sample size of 99,355 in 4,272 communities across the country.
In terms of the predicted parliamentary election results, Prof. Sarpong projected 128 seats for the NPP with a likely number of 41, whereas that of the NDC was 92 with a likely number of 15.

He has also predicted 81.4 percent voter turnout for the general elections.
He disclosed this at a press conference held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Erata Hotel.
‘’As of November 16, 2024 (4 weeks to elections), NPPs Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was in a 49.1% lead. NDCs Mr. John Dramani Mahama coming next with 45.8%, followed by Nana Kwame Bediako with 2.2% and Mr. John Alan Kyerematen with 1.2%. All other candidates put together obtained 1.7% of the votes.’’
He further indicated that the 2024 elections can be won in the first round by only one of the two leading political parties, with the NPP having a higher chance of securing a first-round victory.
He said Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, and Western regions are the ones powering the figure for candidate Bawumia, while Bono East, Greater Accra, Northern, Oti, Savanna, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, and Western North regions are powering the figure for candidate Mahama and the NDC.
