The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced to the Ghanaian public that all votes that will be cast in the name of the late Madam Akua Donkor will be counted as a rejected ballot in the upcoming presidential election on December 7, 2024.
This was contained in a statement issued by the electoral body on Friday, November 22, 2024.
Madam Akua Donkor passed on to eternity, a few weeks following which the EC granted her party ten days to file a new candidate as required by law.
Roman Fada, the party’s running mate, filed to replace the late female politician but was disqualified on grounds of error on the forms.
Questions were raised over the picture of Madam Akua Donkor on the ballot, although she was dead.
Presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, proposed the printing of new ballots for the presidential election.
But his proposal was refused, and the EC has since informed the Ghanaian public that all votes in the name of Akua Donkor would be counted as rejected ballots.
