The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, has revealed that Ghana has received funding from the World Bank to purchase more dialysis machines for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and other facilities across the country.
He disclosed this in an interview on what the government was doing to increase logistics as the country prepares to roll out the free dialysis treatment for renal patients on December 1, 2024.
He confirmed this while speaking with Sir Richie on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM, UK.
Dr. Dacosta Aboagye also disclosed that they have received approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to purchase the dialysis machines.
‘’As I speak with you, the World Bank has allocated funding to the government to buy more dialysis machines for the Komfo Anokye Hospital and other hospitals. The PPA has also granted us the approval, and so this is real. I have the letter with me, and I can send you a copy,’’ he said.
The NHIA CEO went on to state that the government will buy dialysis machines for all the Agenda 111 hospital projects in 2025.
‘’The government in 2025 will buy dialysis machines for the Agenda 111 hospital projects. ‘’
He further announced that the free dialysis treatment will not be run in only public hospitals, but all private hospitals that accept the National Health Insurance Scheme will also be included.
‘’We have identified 35 private health facilities that will be included in the free dialysis treatment initiative. They would be added to help with the successful implementation of the initiative. They are already accredited by the Authority.’’
