President Akufo-Addo has stated that the country is not broke.
He claimed that the assertions that Ghana was broke had been championed by propagandists.
Delivering his final state of the nation address on January 3, 2025, the outgoing president indicated that he is handing over a better and stronger economy than he took over from President-elect John Dramani Mahama in 2017.
He posited that Ghana’s economy is rebounding strongly with our best sustainability significantly improved.
President Akufo-Addo was emphatic that the country was not broke as alleged by his political opponents.
“Mr. Speaker, the country is not broke as some propagandists want us to believe. We are handing over the country with gross international reserves of almost 8 billion United States dollars. This is more than the 6.2 billion of gross international reserves my administration inherited in 2017.”
He further added the banking sector cleanup was an act of necessity and not vendetta as claimed by some of the affected persons.
The initiative he said strengthened the banking sector and also protected depositors who had their savings with the affected banks.
He did say we now have a resilient banking sector that will ensure economic growth and the aspirations of the people.
