President John Dramani Mahama has restated his commitment to upgrading Ghana’s public health services in order to prepare for future health concerns.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, he delivered his inauguration speech at Independence Square, stating that he was willing to strengthen our health-care system to ensure that we are prepared for future pandemics aggravated by the growing climate crisis.
He stated that he will implement efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare industry and ensure citizens’ well-being.
He also mentioned the toll past epidemics have had on families and communities, particularly in neighbouring nations, emphasising the critical necessity for preparedness.
“With the increase of the climate crisis, there is a likelihood of viruses that have been thought to be extinct for decades to begin to spread and create another pandemic.
“This is a serious challenge and so let us not forget the toll that the past epidemics of viruses had on families and communities in our neighbouring countries and to that end, my government will be working diligently to strengthen our public health systems while monitoring the global health situation so that when the next pandemic or epidemic occurs, the loss will be minimal.”
