President John Dramani Mahama has hinted at plans to uncap the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) levy in the next budget.
This, he explained, is to enhance healthcare access for all Ghanaians.
He disclosed this while speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on January 12, 2025.
According to him, he remains committed to making healthcare accessible and equitable.
The President asserted that uncapping the NHIS levy will equip the National Health Insurance Authority with sufficient funds to reimburse healthcare providers for the services they render.
“We will prioritise healthcare and ensure that every Ghanaian, no matter their location or economic status, has access to quality medical care,” he stated. “In this regard, we will compile an inventory of all uncompleted health facilities and prepare a plan and program to complete and operationalise these.”
“This is important so that the National Health Insurance Authority can have sufficient funds to reimburse health service providers for the care that they provide to the public,” he added.
