President John Dramani Mahama has recalled all diplomatic and service passports issued by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
A statement issued by the Office of the President and signed by Callistus Mahama revealed that the recall of the passports aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use and administration of official travel documents by national and international standards.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has therefore been asked to issue a public notice to all holders of diplomatic and service passports issued by the previous government to return these documents to the Ministry for verification and reissuance.
The Ministry had also been asked to set a deadline for compliance by setting up a reasonable deadline for all concerned individuals to comply with the notice by January 24, 2025.
It is also required for the ministry to conduct verification by conducting a thorough review of all the returned passports to ensure they are aligned with the current eligibility criteria for issuance.
