The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a public announcement regarding the recall of all diplomatic and service passports.
The notice by the Ministry follows a statement issued by the Office of the President instructing it to recall all diplomatic and service passports.
The ministry, in its statement, revealed that this directive will affect former ministers and spouses, former members of Parliament irrespective of their political affiliations, former members of the Council of State and spouses, and former justices of the superior and lower courts.
The rest are former regional ministers, MMDCEs, former CEOs of state institutions, chairs and members of boards, officials of the National Cathedral Project, and former political ambassadors and dependents.
Religious and traditional leaders, businessmen and entrepreneurs, former government functionaries, and all other persons holding diplomatic and service passports who are not serving in any official capacity on behalf of the state or otherwise holding positions that fall under the requirements of Sections 6 and 7 of the Passport and Travel Certificates Act, 1967, NLCS 155.
The affected persons have been asked to submit their passports at the Legal and Trustees Bureau of the Ministry by January 24, 2025.
The Ministry added that the recall is to ensure a review of all the diplomatic and service passports in line with the current eligibility criteria for issuances.
