Deputy Director of Elections for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibrill has posited that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not recovered from the humiliating defeat they suffered in the 2024 general elections.
He stated that the NPP and its members are going through unprecedented shock following the defeat they suffered.
According to the politician, the NPP’s behaviour on the vetting committee of the Minister-designate for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the questions they asked him about the ‘No Fee Stress’ policy and the demand for the scrapping of the betting tax and E-Levy is an act of desperation by the NPP.
He stated that the NDC is aware of the promises it made to Ghanaians and will keep them, so the NPP should not rush.
‘’We had not even appointed a Minister of Finance or presented the budget, and yet, the NPP has started rushing and demanding that we immediately scrap the taxes and pay the fees of the tertiary students. How do you do these things without a minister and a budget? They should take their time. We will certainly scrap the taxes and deliver on our promise to pay the fees for the tertiary students.
I can understand their frustration. They are behaving this way because they believe the NDC has been in office for eight years when we have only been in power for nine days. They have yet to recover from their defeat. They believe we have been in power for eight years because what we have accomplished in the nine days since taking office has astounded them,” he stated.
He assured Ghanaians that the NDC will take them for granted considering the massive endorsement they gave us during the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the NDC remains committed to delivering on its promise because Ghanaians trusted and voted massively for the party in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
