The Roads and Highways Minister-designate, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that road tolls will be reinstated in a new, technological format.
This new move, he claims, will help to eliminate the need for physical barriers on roads.
The elimination of the road tolls he mentioned resulted in the potential loss of revenue and a negative impact on road infrastructure development.
According to him, the previous system had flaws, particularly in preventing leaks, and could have been improved rather than decommissioned.
He argued that the previous government’s claim that tolls only amounted to ¢80 million was misleading, especially since road contractors across the country are still owed significant amounts.
He explained that the new system to be introduced will focus on leveraging technology to improve toll collection efficiency and eliminate the need for physical barriers that slow down traffic.
The Adaklu MP added that through the use of modern methods and technological solutions, road tolls will be easier to collect and will likely improve the overall road maintenance and development process.
