President John Dramani Mahama has told newly sworn-in Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson that Ghanaians are looking forward to him to roll out measures that will help reduce the cost of living.
The President made the remarks at the swearing-in ceremony of six ministers who were approved by parliament after their successful vetting.
According to him, the finance minister is expected to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges, including reducing inflation, stabilising the currency, and ensuring macroeconomic sustainability.
He said, “The people of Ghana are looking up to you to reduce inflation, make life affordable, and reduce the cost of living. Ghanaians are looking up to you to bring our national debt to sustainable levels, and they are looking to you to stabilise our currency so that we can achieve macroeconomic stability.”
He urged him to work hard and restore confidence in Ghana’s economy through sound financial management and strategic planning.
The President further asked the Finance Minister and the other five ministers to tell Ghanaians the true state of the nation as they officially take over office.
“While we were all aware of the country’s poor economic state before the elections, it is important, in the spirit of openness and transparency, to inform the people of Ghana about the true state of affairs as we inherited it,” he said.
“So much needs to be done in so short a time, and I assure the people of Ghana that this government will rise to the challenge and reset our country,” he added.
“The people of Ghana desire a system that guarantees justice for all, nothing more, nothing less,” he added.
“The days of tolerance for disrespect and gaslighting by government officials are over. Ghanaians will take firm action to hold any administration accountable if they feel taken for granted.”
