The President John Dramani Mahama-led administration remains committed to empowering women-led businesses as a key strategy to improve the livelihoods of Ghanaian women and spur economic growth, Minister-designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has said.
During her vetting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the lawyer noted that underscored the need for gender equality in fostering national development.
The lawmaker pledged that Mahama’s government will create opportunities for women entrepreneurs to succeed and scale their businesses.
“Women empowerment is central to the John Dramani Mahama administration’s development agenda,” she noted.
“Specific initiatives, policies, and laws will be implemented to uplift women-led businesses, enabling them to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the economy.”
The minister-designate further promised to implement the Affirmative Action Law within the Trade Ministry, aligning with President Mahama’s vision of promoting inclusivity and equality.
The nominee also called for the introduction of a mentoring program as part of her strategy to empower women to aspire to leadership positions.
She explained that the mentorship initiative will help foster a network of established women leaders and emerging entrepreneurs, focusing on knowledge-sharing, skill development, and confidence building.
“There may not be too many women at the top, but those who are there can serve as mentors. This program will help young women entrepreneurs grow, scale up, and navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship,” she added.
