The minister-designate for communications, digitalisation, and innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has served notice that mobile network operators (MNOs) that fail to meet the required quality standards will face financial penalties.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, 2025, the Ningo-Prampram MP stated that he is still committed to ensuring that telecommunications companies provide reliable and efficient services to Ghanaians.
He argued that while the government would help MNOs improve their infrastructure, there would be consequences for poor service delivery.
“I will not be a minister who’ll be afraid to impose a fine when MNOs fail to provide the quality of services required, as well as we support them in doing so,” he stated.
He reiterated his resolve to hold service providers responsible while creating an atmosphere that encourages innovation and technical progress in the nation’s digital industry.
