A heated confrontation during the Premier League fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Kronmansah II Park has resulted in the death of a supporter.
The incident reportedly began with players from both teams engaging in heated exchanges, which escalated into a brawl on the pitch.
This occurred following a contentious foul committed by a Nsoatreman player.
According to available details, tempers flared as players exchanged blows, with Nsoatreman’s left-back, Eric Osei Bonsu, seen stamping on a Kotoko player who was already on the ground.
The referee fled the scene but later returned to continue officiating the game after calm was restored.
However, supporters of the home team began throwing stones and objects at the Kotoko bench, striking Kotoko’s media officer and damaging crucial equipment, including a laptop and camera.
A Kotoko supporter, popularly known as ‘Polley’, who was stabbed during the violence, later succumbed to his injuries. The team has since extended condolences to the bereaved family.
