The Ghana Police Service has arrested former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, along with two others, in connection with a violent clash during a football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.
The chaotic incident that occurred on Sunday, February 2015, led to the death of a supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the Bono Region.
The two other suspects have been identified as Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph.
“A search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.”
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, the police said.
The IGP indicated that there would be a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters has been deployed to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in the ongoing investigation.
