Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, the current First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has proceeded on leave prior to the end of his contract.
A statement issued by the central bank indicates that the First Deputy Governor will commence his leave tomorrow, Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
President John Dramani Mahama has been formally notified and has approved the leave.
Dr. Opoku-Afari was appointed First Deputy Governor on August 7, 2017.
He was reappointed for a second term on August 7, 2021, in accordance with the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002, Act 612, as amended, and has held the position until his announcement to take leave.
The bank has expressed gratitude for his service to the nation.
