President John Dramani Mahama has admonished Ghanaians to rekindle their patriotism and be inspired by the legacy of the late Lt. Gen. Arnold Quainoo, former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He made the call at the final funeral rites of the former military officer on Friday, February 7, 2025.

The final rites held at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Burma Camp saw in attendance not only the President but also the Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, some senior officials, and former First Lady Dr. Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

President Mahama eulogised the late Lt. Gen. Quainoo and described him as a symbol of patriotism and integrity.

“He is the last of his generation that is past who believed in the love of country; they were not given into materialism. They were principled, and they did things out of patriotism. It is very different from the generation today. Everything is driven by material wealth. So, as we gather to say farewell to this man, may his life be an inspiration; thus, we can recapture love for country and patriotism,” he stated.

The late Lt. Gen. Quainoo was also the first commander of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) during the Liberian civil war in 1990.

He is also credited with contributing to regional peacekeeping efforts.
