Nana Owusu, a communication team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has presented a strong case for Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, former director of elections for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), to be appointed to President John Dramani Mahama’s government.
He recognised the crucial role the former sports minister played in securing victory for the umbrella family in the 2024 general elections.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah, he believed, was one of the politicians that assisted the NDC in gaining more votes in the Ashanti region
during the December 7 elections.
He was speaking to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
Nana Owusu said that politicians, regardless of party affiliation, must commit to commending their opponents when they do well, and thus his statements should not be seen as abandoning his own party, the NPP.
“Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has done tremendously well for the NDC. He was one of the NDC’s politicians who secured votes for the party in the Ashanti region. I hope that President John Dramani Mahama will offer him an appointment. His appointment has been delayed. I am not sure why the president hasn’t appointed him. All of the appointments have been set, yet I still haven’t heard his name.
Some of the names mentioned are shocking, especially when Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is still around. If he has shared all ministerial roles, he should remember Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and perhaps appoint him as CEO of any of the state organisations. I urge President Mahama to remember him. I am quite troubled by the negligence.”
