Former Black Stars and Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender Habib Mohammed has stated that the violent incident that marred the Premier League game between his former team and Nsoatreman FC, resulting in the death of a football fan, is a crisis that requires a comprehensive solution.
The incident, he stated, was unfortunate and best described as hooliganism.
In an interview with Rainbow Sports, he first expressed condolences to the family of the late Francis Frimpong, also known as “Pooley.”
He said that what occurred was an act of hooliganism, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) must deal with it. The GFA must deal with the security arrangements at the various stadiums. Generally, there are several issues at all levels, from Division One to the Premier League.
He was also concerned that the number of security personnel deployed to match venues was insufficient, complaining that sometimes they told us that 100 police officers would be deployed for a match, but when you arrive, only ten officers were present. The GFA must look into this and address the security for the matches.
Habib Mohammed also advised the GFA to close some match venues, arguing that some of them are no longer suitable for use.
The retired player said that it was difficult to witness some of these incidents back in the day, but we have recently seen unprecedented levels of hooliganism.
