Ofori-Atta must be resurrected to answer questions for his sins if he dies before trial – PPP, UK

Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the UK and Ireland, Kit Yawson, has underscored the need for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to be held accountable for the sins he committed while in office.

He believes the former minister, while in office, engaged in activities that caused financial loss to the state and deprived several Ghanaians of job opportunities.

Mr. Yawson said even if Ken Ofori-Atta dies before he is dragged before justice to answer questions, we must find ways to resurrect him to stand trial and answer questions.

He made the remarks during a phone interview with ‘As it is in Ghana’ host Sir Richie on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM in the United Kingdom.

He was categorical in stating the former minister must be made to answer questions regarding his role in the mess and corruption-related activities.

Kit Yawson said if it is established that these charges are frivolous, that will be okay, ”but if it is established that he is culpable, he should not escape justice. In the least of the accusations against him, all must be proven. It is not too late for the current government to take steps in encouraging Ghanaians to support its agenda in uncovering all our looted assets’’.

Kit Yawson advised all former appointees who have engaged in any form of corrupt practices to surrender to the law.

On the declaration of Ofori-Atta as a fugitive and reasons provided by his lawyers that he was sick and seeking medical care, he said,”That man is not sick. He is pretending and running away from justice’’.

When asked if Ofori-Atta was likely to be exonerated, he replied, “No way.” A man like Kwaku Ananse cannot be exonerated. He is pretending to be dying, which is completely false. He is fleeing from justice. Even if Ken Ofori-Atta dies, we must find a way to resurrect him and ask him questions. “We want him to return, dead or alive,” he told Sir Richie.

He emphasised that Ofori-Atta’s role in the banking sector collapse must also be investigated, as allowing him to escape justice would be unfair to Ghanaians. He must stand trial for Agyapa royalties and the Akufo-Addo friends and family agenda. Ofori-Atta and his cousin, Akufo-Addo, have committed numerous sins. To be fair, we haven’t charged him yet, and he’s already fled. But even if he is dead, we must revive him to answer questions before burying him”.
