Ghanaian Paralympian and wheelchair racing sensation, Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe, has cautioned Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to be a minister for all sporting activities and not just focus on the senior national team, the Black Stars.
He attributed the failure of successive sports ministers to the over concentration on football and, more particularly, the senior national team.
Speaking in an interview with Rainbow Sports on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the athlete said the success of the minister will depend on his approach and the attention he will place on sporting activities in the country.
He advised him to resist the temptation of giving the national team all the attention at the expense of the others.
‘’Kofi Adams’ success as a Minister of Sports and Recreation will depend on his approach and the attention that he is going to pay to the sports. If he follows the path of those who came before him by focusing on the one girlfriend in Ghana that everybody wants to date, which is football and, more particularly, the Black Stars, it will not be helpful. But if he decides to give equal attention to the other disciplines and get an understanding that sports is a job, then he will succeed.”
He went on to admonish the minister to make his office more accessible to sports persons who are living with disabilities.‘’His office must be accessible, and if possible, he should have a dedicated desk for disability sports. The accessibility I am talking about is that if I am a PWD and I am unable to access the office of the minister, then you cannot listen to my problems. If the ministry is for sports and recreation, it should be accessible for all.’’
He also requests that the minister support para sports by investing in logistics for their members to increase their participation in international and regional tournaments.
