Political analyst Samuel Osei Poku has stated that the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, February 27, 2025, was “more promising.”.

He opined that the president spoke from his experience in his first term, the challenges he faced, what he achieved, and the lessons he learnt that can guide him for his second coming.

“I can state that the SONA was more promising. He spoke based on his experience of being a president before. So, all in all, I can confidently declare that there is hope in the message he delivered,” he said on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.

The analyst indicated that the President, in his SONA, highlighted the challenges confronting the country.

“The message was full of hope based on his experience. President Mahama, in his SONA, painted a picture of our situation. He made us know the true state of the nation. He started from where we are currently and where he intends to take us. In his message, he revealed the current debt and what the previous government did. As to whether that was bad or good, it is subject to debate. But generally, he told us clearly our situation and what he will do to transform our lives. I will stress that the SONA was full of hope.”

Samuel Osei Poku said it was too early to touch on specific sectors in his first SONA, and so Ghanaians would have to wait for the budget presentation and subsequent SONA presentations.

“So going forward, we have to wait for the budget presentation, and the next SONA will give us the opportunity to see the true state of the nation. This one is okay. At least he summarised or generalised the issues so we can know our situation. We can pardon him for this one. In the next SONA, we can expect a sectoral address so we can have a comprehensive presentation.”
