A group calling itself the Association of Ghanaian Creatives has suggested to President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the appointments of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner to the National Film Authority.
The group of arts stakeholders believes the two are not qualified for the positions they have been allocated.
President John Dramani Mahama a few days ago appointed Kafui Danku as the Executive Secretary of the NFA, with James Gardiner as her Deputy.
But in a petition that has so far gathered over twenty signatures, the Association of Ghana Creatives is requesting that the president rather consider other options.
“We, the undersigned members of the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, urge the government to appoint qualified, visionary leadership at the NFA. The institution must be helmed by a technocrat with deep industry knowledge, supported by a board of experienced creative professionals who can steer the sector toward revitalisation and global competitiveness,” the petition proposed.
They have also proposed some personalities who they believe have the skills and competence to manage the National Film Authority better.
The proposed persons are:
- George Bosompin (National Film Institute, GAFTA)
- Jim Awindor (Film and television strategist)
- Akofa Edjeani Asiedu (veteran filmmaker and policy maker)
- Professor Linus Abraham (Media and communication expert)
- Akosua Abdallah (Film education and policy expert)
- Ms. Nicole Amarteifio (Pioneering filmmaker and industry advocate)
