Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson believes Ghana can reset its economy if we maintain discipline in its financial practices.
Delivering a speech at the ongoing national economic dialogue, he called for fiscal responsibility and commitment to sustainable economic policies.
“We can reset our economy; we can do this; we just have to be disciplined and understand that the short-term gains today have long-term consequences on our country.”.
He argued that while Ghana is currently facing significant economic difficulties, a concerted effort towards fiscal discipline could pave the way for recovery and growth.
The National Economic Dialogue is being held under the theme, “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.” The event seeks to address key economic concerns, propose sustainable policy solutions, and chart a path toward long-term economic stability.
The forum aims to ensure that diverse voices from the public and private sectors contribute meaningfully to shaping the country’s financial future.
The dialogue’s conclusions are expected to serve as a roadmap for policy implementation, guiding economic decisions that promote resilience and sustainable growth.
In his address, chairman of the organising committee, renowned economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson, stated that our experience in the 68 years of our politics has not been spectacular, and the time has come for us to make a fresh start.
He said Ghana needs its destiny urgently reset; hence, when he was asked to chair the dialogue, he did not hesitate.
He admonished Ghanaians to take responsibility for shaping the nation’s future, stressing the importance of unity and determination in overcoming the country’s economic difficulties.
“…The sad truth is that the overwhelming majority of our problems are homegrown and self-inflicted. Only our leaders and the people of Ghana can and must resolve these issues. Let us take responsibility for resetting our destiny with our own hands.
“The journey to reset Ghana will not be easy. It will be rough, full of risks and frustrations from within and outside. However, with the determined leadership you have promised and the ownership you take, you shall succeed.
“Besides, there are many Ghanaians who are ready to stand by you and work with you to deliver your bold vision,” he added.
Participants will engage in detailed discussions through thematic sessions focusing on critical areas such as:
- Achieving Sustainable Macroeconomic Stability
- Promoting Economic Transformation
- Advancing Infrastructure Development
- Implementing Structural Reforms
- Ensuring Private Sector-Led Growth
- Restoring Good Governance and Combating Corruption
