President John Mahama proposed some key areas he believes require constitutional amendments to enhance Ghana’s governance framework.
Speaking during a meeting with the Constitution Review Committee today, March 4, 2025, the President posited that there was the need for reforms to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance.
Mr. Mahama identified the election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), the emoluments of Article 71 officeholders, and the appointment of ministers from Parliament.

The committee, which was chaired by Prof. H. Kwesi Prempeh, met with the president to seek his perspectives on the review process and the constitutional changes he considers necessary.

It will also engage stakeholders and submit actionable recommendations within five months.
This initiative is part of President Mahama’s promise during his 2024 campaign to revisit unresolved governance challenges and reform the 1992 Constitution.
