President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye has revealed that the previous government frustrated his efforts in transforming boxing in Ghana because of his affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He told Rainbow Sports that the previous administration made it so difficult for the Authority to receive any form of funding to embark on activities and initiatives for the boxing sector.
He revealed that he suffered at the hands of the previous because of his political affiliation.
”I chalked remarkable success when my government was not in power. I suffered under the previous government because they knew I was an NDC member. So, when I arrived, the government’s sponsorship of the then-GBA was cancelled. So I relied on individual businessmen, or the private sector, and I was able to get this thing to this point.”
Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye stated that now that the NDC is in office, he is especially excited because he can walk anywhere and seek support for the GBA.
‘’Now that my government is in power, that is where I will steal the show. That is where I will do what I have to do because I can walk anywhere, and I know they will listen to them because I have been with them.”
Meanwhile, he has expressed strong optimism about retaining his seat in the next election, claiming stakeholders in the sector appreciate his quality of work.
‘’The stakeholders will tell you that Kotei Neequaye should continue the job. But of course, if you take up a position and make it attractive, several others would want to contest and take up your position. No matter the challenge, I am confident of retaining my seat…I am the right person to continue the job.”
