The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has told the Parliament Committee of the Whole that the construction of the new headquarters cost $261.8 million.
He made the disclosure when he appeared before the committee on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
The Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiama, was summoned to appear before the committee to brief it on the cost of the headquarters project.
He said the bank recognises the significance of the public interest in the cost of the project, and because they were willing to be transparent, it was important to disclose the cost of the project.
He announced that the newly constituted board will be sworn into office, and after they have been sworn in, they will deal with the matters relating to the headquarters and all other legacy projects initiated by the previous administration.
He revealed that after the evaluation of tenders was received, the Entity Tender Committee (ETC) of the Bank at its meeting held on 6th August 2020 considered the Tender Evaluation Panel’s recommendation and approved the award of the contract for the project to Messrs. Goldkey Properties Limited at the cost of $121,078,517.94.
He indicated the project later went through further evaluation, which then changed the cost from USD 81,882,640.00 to USD 121,078,517.94.
He said after the BoG requested a reevaluation, the figure was increased to $222.8 million, and after redesigning and including management systems, the cost of the project increased to $261.8 million.
Dr. Asiama said as of February 2025, a total of approximately $230 million has been paid towards the project with an outstanding balance of $31.8 million to be paid to the contract.
He added that a total of $48 million has been paid in taxes and levies that were related to the construction.
Beyond the core building, separate contracts were awarded for other infrastructure, and these include ICT systems and network infrastructure, which was awarded at a cost of $8.6 million; integrated systems, which was also awarded at a cost of $15.5 million; and furniture and furnishing, costing $11.1 million.
