The Volta Diaspora Caucus has served notice that should Parliament fail to punish the Member of Parliament who described Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as the daughter of a murderer, they will take the matter into their own hands and fish the person out.
A leading member of the group, Kplorm Kofi Dordunu, said they know the identity of the said MP but are waiting for the one-week ultimatum given by Speaker Alban Bagbin to elapse and will decide on the way forward.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the MP’s comments were reckless, offensive, and unparliamentary; therefore, the MP should follow the Speaker’s directive and own up or face the consequences.
He informed host Kwabena Agyapong that they would go to parliament and drag the MP themselves.
‘’We know the MP who made the comments. We are aware of his identity, and so what we can advise is that the person should come out and apologise. We need to have it on record that the person apologised. As a group, we will take serious action if the person refuses to apologise. If the person fails to apologise, we will storm parliament and fish the person out ourselves. The protest we organised yesterday was a peaceful one, but if the person refuses to apologise, we will fish the person out. We will not mention the person’s name now, but we know the person.”
He revealed that the protest they held yesterday was to preserve the legacy of the late former President John Rawlings, who founded this country’s democracy.
“Rawlings is like a god to some of us. We cannot sit and watch some people denigrate his legacy and insult him,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has issued a one-week ultimatum to the Member of Parliament (MP) responsible for the “daughter of a murderer” comment.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Mr. Bagbin described the comment as reckless and deeply disturbing.
