Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, has appealed to Ghanaians to use the Ghana Month activities to eat, drink, wear, and patronise anything made in Ghana.
He said GTA launched the Heritage Month on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra with the core objective of boosting local tourism.
Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he noted that the Black Star Experience will revolutionise Ghana’s tourism landscape, drive economic growth, create job opportunities, and rebrand Ghana as a premier tourism destination.
Mr. Santana asserted that several activities have been lined up for Heritage Month, which include Ghana Music Month, Heritage Caravan, Made in Ghana Rave, Akwaaba Festival, Taste 68 @ 68 Food Fair, Ghana Culture Week, Showbiz A-Z (Spotlight on the Ga People), Gob3 Festival, and Back To Your Village Festival.
He said one of the best ways to transform the domestic tourism sector is for Ghanaians to participate in and patronise our tourist attraction sites. He also posited that it would be prudent for us to also patronise our local delicacies and any other thing made in Ghana.
”We will have Ghana Food Month, where it is encouraged that for every hotel you visit, you should have access to our local delicacies, such as banku, dokuno, waakye, tatale, yakayaka, aboloo, brodie ampesie, rather than the sausages and beef we import. We also have Ghana Fashion Month, which will allow designers, seamstresses, tailors, and others to interact and sell to Ghanaians. The president has given us specific instructions to have year-round activities, not just for the celebration of our independence.”
