Former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been released by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
Gifty Oware-Mensah was held in custody after being questioned in connection with an ongoing probe into the ghost names scandal at the NSA.
She was arrested on Friday, March 7, and detained briefly before being granted release on Saturday, March 8, 2025, after cooperating with investigators.
Details emerging indicated that she may be asked to return for further questioning on the matter.
Formal charges are yet to be filed against her.`
The NIB is investigating her work at the NSS over allegations that thousands of ghost names were used to defraud the state of millions of cedis in allowances.
Some 81,885 suspected ghosts have allegedly been discovered by authorities, which is a sharp contrast to the actual number of active personnel and the payroll data submitted by the previous management of the National Service Authority (NSA).
According to the government, there are currently 98,145 active service personnel, a stark contrast to the 180,030 names presented for allowance payment in 2024.
