The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the government will take an immediate step in addressing the payment of the one-year allowances of the three hundred and twenty-two (322) doctors of pharmacy.
The minister presenting the 2025 budget statement before Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, said the non-payment of the allowances came up during his interaction with the Ghanaian on X spaces recently.
In his remarks, he assured the affected persons that the government will take immediate steps in paying the outstanding allowances.
“During my engagement with the youth, it was revealed that 321 pharmacists who were employed since June 2023, have not received their salaries. We will take urgent steps to remedy this situation immediately,” he stated.
He added that “This conversation was an eye-opening experience, one that strengthened my belief that the voices of the youth matter in designing policies that directly and indirectly impact their lives, and future.”
In 2024, the 322 Doctors of Pharmacy threatened to sue the Ministry of Health if their one-year allowances were not paid.
The lawyers of the doctors in a letter to the MoH dated August 21, 2024, said that
“We are informed by our clients that all through the period of their engagement, they were not paid any allowances contrary to the settled practice.”
“We have in the circumstances been instructed by our clients to respectfully demand the immediate payment of all allowances due our clients in full.”
“Please take note that unless we hear favourably from you in any event at a date not less than 30 days from the date of receipt of this letter, we have our clients’ instructions to commence legal action against you,” they stated.
