Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has indicated that the government remains committed to its flagship 24-hour economic policy.
He said the President Mahama-led administration remains committed to the pursuit of the 24-hour economy policy, which will stimulate economic growth and job creation.
He told parliament that this policy will be addressing Ghana’s structural economic challenges by creating an integrated, efficient, and increasingly export-driven industrial economy that fulfils the utilisation of our national resources.
Dr. Forson said the government will submit before the house in due course the details of the policy soon, and in this respect, the Labour Act, Ghana Investment Promotion Act, and other enabling legislation would be reviewed accordingly.
“The Mahama-led NDC government is committed to the pursuit of the 24-hour economy policy,” he stated.
He added that this initiative aligns with the administration’s broader agenda of enhancing economic opportunities and ensuring inclusivity in employment.
The proposed 24-hour economy forms part of the NDC’s vision to build the Ghana We Want. Let me reiterate that our quest to build the Ghana we want together with you will be premised on: Building an industrialised, inclusive, and resilient economy that creates well-paying jobs, Creating an equitable, healthy, and prosperous nation, Developing well-planned, safe communities while protecting the natural environment, Building effective, efficient, and dynamic institutions for national development; and Strengthening Ghana’s role in African and international affairs.
The 24-hour policy will be anchored as an economy that runs around the clock with a three-shift work schedule in many sectors. The intent is to transform Ghana into, first, a self-sufficient and then an export-led economy.
