The Alliance Drivers Association of Ghana has served notice that if the government fails to scrap the taxes it promised to scrap, they will also respond by increasing transport fares by 30 percent.
Public Relations Officer for the Association, Kwaku Boateng, said it is their expectation that the E-Levy, Covid-19 levy, and the betting tax would be scrapped as promised by the government.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he noted that they are waiting patiently for the budget to be presented, and they will advise themselves when their expectations are not met.
He lamented that the Covid-19 levy affects everything they buy, particularly fuel, and that is affecting their business.
He said the cost of spare parts has also seen an astronomical increment.
“If the government has anything to do to support drivers, then they should roll them out. The Covid-19 levy is a nuisance tax. It is our expectation that this and other nuisance taxes are scrapped. We expect these taxes to be scrapped to help reduce the cost of spare parts and fuel. If that is not done, Ghanaians should prepare to pay 30% more for transport, he stressed.
