Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Rev. Kweku Addo, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to appoint Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who are willing to collaborate with their Members of Parliament (MPs) to ensure that the reset agenda is achieved.
He stated that although he does not have anyone to support for the position as MCE, he would want the President to appoint people who are collaborative.
The MP suggested that the appointed MMDCEs must possess the requisite skills to collaborate effectively with MPs, particularly in constituencies where it is not the party’s stronghold.
“So far, I have not openly endorsed anybody because, you know, by law, it is the mandate of the President to appoint the MMDCEs. But my view is that the president, in consultation, should get people who will work in collaboration with his MPs to be able to succeed. More especially in constituencies where it was difficult for NDC to win but now has won, like my constituency, Ablekuma West and Ayawaso Central.”
He said that for the seats the NPP had held for a long time and the NDC had won for the first time, it meant the NPP was doing something right and the NDC must do everything possible to help them maintain these seats.
Rev. Addo noted that constituents will hold the MPs in these constituencies to account, and so the party, and most importantly the President, must appoint people who can be good baggers and are not biased, put aside their personal agenda, and work for the good of the people of Ablekuma West and the NDC government.
“My posture is that we need people who can do the work because it is amazing to note that there were 17 people who expressed interest in being appointed, and out of the 17, about 15 or 14 were part of my campaign team, so how can I endorse any of them? It is not possible.
That is why I contacted them and informed them that I am unable to endorse any particular individual, but among themselves, they are aware of who possesses the necessary capabilities or is best suited for the position,” he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
