The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his uncapping the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
The NHIA says the move will help improve healthcare accessibility in Ghana.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in the budget presentation on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, announced that the NHIF has been uncapped.
He declared, ” Mr. Speaker, we have uncapped the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL).
An amount of GH¢9.93 billion has been programmed for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for claim payments, essential medicines, vaccine payments, free primary healthcare, the Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares), and bridging the USAID financing shortfall.”
Reacting to this, CEO of NHIA Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe referred to the uncapping as a landmark policy fulfilment.
He believes it aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable and accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.
He posted that the uncapping of the NHIF means more funds will be available to enhance healthcare services, expand coverage, and improve efficiency within the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
