Executive Director of Revenue Mobilisation Africa, Mr. Geoffrey Kabutey Ocansey, has described the 2025 budget statement as a promising keeping budget.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the government has kept its promise.
He noted that the various engagements with experts and stakeholders, as well as the several promises they made, have been captured in the budget.
He stated that from social interventions to tax-related matters, all have been captured.
“My general assessment is that the current government has captured several of the suggestions proposed by experts and stakeholders. They also captured several of their promises. So we can boldly state that they have kept their promise. The budget statement highlighted social intervention programs, especially for the deprived and the poor. They have also increased the budget for the free SHS policy, which is a significant increase.
The allocation for the Livelihood Empowerment Programme (LEAP) has also been increased. All these social intervention programs and the allocations made are commendable,” he stated.
He further commended the government for the announcement to scrap the nuisance taxes that increase our tax burden.
“The other positive news captured in the budget was the announcement to abolish the nuisance taxes, including the E-Levy, Covid-19 levy, the Emission Levy, and the other nuisance taxes. So, in summary, I think they have captured the majority of the promises. What we have to do now is to monitor them and ensure that they implement what they have promised to do.”
