The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has expressed gratitude to the government for allocating GHC100 million as an allowance for them in the 2025 budget statement.
National President Frank Nelson Ackah was optimistic that this will motivate them to improve on their responsibilities to their assemblies.
He explained that for the government to deliver on this campaign promise was not only good news but will motivate assembly members to do better.
Mr. Nelson Ackah said they have been expecting the payment of allowance for years, but it has not materialised, and for this government to deliver on this pledge, they are extremely grateful.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said that as the first point of call in their various electoral areas, it will go a long way in supporting their activities.
“We have been expecting the payment of the allowance for years, but we were not paid, but for this government to deliver on its campaign promise, we are extremely grateful. The allowance will help us achieve a lot. We are the first point of call in our electoral areas. When a street bulb gets damaged, we can use the allowance to repair it. As assembly members, our electorates also expect us to attend to their needs.
The electorates invite us to funerals and other programs, and we are expected to make donations; the allowance has come at the most appropriate time, and we are grateful to the president.”
He assured the Ghanaian public that “we will improve our performance. There have always been shortfalls in our responsibilities, but the payment of the allowance will motivate us to do better. That is a pledge we are making to Ghanaians.”
