Hon Lawrence Agyinsam, the Member of Parliament for Hemang Lower Denkyira, has expressed concerns regarding Ghana’s economic performance and the recent budget presentation by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Speaking during the 2025 Budget Workshop for Members of Parliament, Hon Agyinsam noted that Ghana’s economy grew by 5.7%, surpassing global, African, and European benchmarks.
However, he felt that the NDC Budget analysis overlooked key factors contributing to Ghana’s growth, such as the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war on fertilizer and maize prices, which in turn affected inflation and the primary balance.
The Former CEO of Exim Bank, Lawrence Agyinsam, also questioned the budget’s emphasis on export-led growth, given the cancellation of the ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative.
He argued that the budget lacked a counterbalancing policy to promote industrialization and boost exports.
Furthermore, Agyinsam was surprised that the budget barely mentioned the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), despite the importance of inter-African trade.
