Deputy Director of the Operations at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, has announced plans by the government to sustain the free dialysis programme.
The program was introduced to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Benefit Package, and it would provide services to renal patients who are eligible for the scheme.
Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto disclosed this while speaking at the Tamale Teaching Hospital’s 2024 Annual Performance Review Meeting under the theme “Transforming Service Delivery through Professional Excellence and Ethical Practice.”
Dr Djokoto reiterated NHIA’s commitment to creating a sustainable and progressive atmosphere for the delivery of efficient services to all members enrolled in the scheme.
“With this move, I am certain that there will be no interruption to the services that are being rendered by accredited facilities.”He underscored the need for a reinforced partnership between the NHIA and the nation’s teaching hospitals to enhance the government’s free primary healthcare agenda.“The Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) was launched on Wednesday. It will adopt a comprehensive approach to addressing chronic illnesses. For individuals with hypertension, diabetes, and those requiring interventions like dialysis, a visionary policy is necessary to support them in mitigating the devastating financial consequences of their conditions.”
For his part, the Tamale Teaching Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr Adam Atiku, extended gratitude to the NHIA for promptly reimbursing credentialed healthcare facilities for services rendered to NHIS active members.
He commended the NHIA for its unwavering support of the hospital, particularly in the area of dialysis services.
He appealed to the government to sustain the programme considering the benefits.
Speaking on behalf of the health minister, the acting director for technical coordination at the Ministry of Health, Dr Hafez Adams, said the government will prioritise healthcare for all residents of Ghana.
Dr Djokoto was joined by top management officials from the Head Office, including the Director in charge of Special Initiatives and Liaison to the Ministry of Health, Dr Anthony Gingong; Director of Financial Accounting, Dr Gustav Cruickshank; Director of Private Health Insurance Schemes, Alhaji Hudu Issah; Director of Strategic Health Purchasing, Dr Ruby Aileen Mensah Annan (Mrs); Ag. Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Oswald Essuah-Mensah; and Deputy Director, Membership and Regional Operations, Mariam Musah (Ms).
