The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) says the free dialysis programme will still remain in effect until the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares, becomes fully operational.
A statement issued by the NHIS said a seven-member committee chaired by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has been established to oversee the successful implementation of the initiative.
The initiative, introduced by President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to ease the financial burden of treatment and improve access to healthcare for persons with chronic conditions such as cancer and kidney-related issues.
According to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), this initiative aligns with the mandate of ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all, particularly persons with kidney disease who rely on dialysis treatment.
It added that the NHIS remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition once the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund is fully established and operational.
