The Member of Parliament for Afram Plains, Mr. Kpeli Worlase, has stated that his constituency is about benefits from the government 24-hour economy.
According to him, he has been contacted by the 24-hour economy office and has spoken to the agriculture office and is currently mapping for 10,000 acres of land for agriculture with the support of investors.
Hon. Kpeli said it is a big push for the people of Afram Plains North, as the youth will be employed when it starts.
He indicated that the 24-hour economy is for job creation, and the youths were the targets.
He described the 24-hour economy as a laudable idea, adding that it is the policy the country will implement to bring the youth into the workforce, thereby lowering our country’s unemployment rate.
He revealed this on the Rainbow Radio Frontline Morning Show, which was hosted by Kwabena Agyapong.
He said, ”As we speak, my constituency is about benefitting from the 24-hour economy policy because the 24-hour economy office has contacted me, and we have earmarked about 10,000 acres of land for agricultural-related activities. The office has approached some investors to start work as soon as possible. I will name this as a big push for the constituency because the youth in the area will get something to do. A lot of them will be employed in these services when work starts. That one alone is taking us somewhere”.
The 24-hour economy championed by President John Dramani Mahama is an economic model whereby the whole or part of the architecture or infrastructure of the economy adjusts to support 24-hour operations of businesses, factories, government services, restaurants, shops, healthcare delivery, banking and other services throughout the day and night.
Some of the benefits of a 24-hour economy are as follows:
- Increases employment opportunities to the citizens especially the youth.
- Enhance business-business opportunities and competitiveness.
- Optimum utilization of resources especially idle resources in a company or an organization.
- Increase spending in the economy
- Boost tourism
- Increases employees’ productivity
- Reduces staffing costs to companies/organizations
- Increases economies of scale for manufacturing industries.
