Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for assenting to the bill repealing the E-Levy.
The General Secretary of the group, Kingsley Amoako Atta, described it as an “amazing news”.
President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, signed the bills repealing the e-levy, betting tax, and emissions levy.
Other bills assented to by the president are the Value Added Tax (VAT) Amendment Bill, Income Tax Amendment Bill 2025, Petroleum Revenue Management Amendment Bill 2025, Public Financial Management Amendment Bill, Earmarked Funds Capping and Realignment Bill, Energy Sector Levy Act, Gold Board Bill 2025 and Growth and Sustainability Levy Act.
Reacting specifically to the scrapping of the E-Levy, Kingsley Amoako Atta stated that this was a step in the right direction because the levy which was introduced by the previous government was a nuisance tax.
“We are excited and grateful to the government for delivering on the campaign promise. During the 2024 political campaign season, President John Dramani Mahama promised to scrap the E-Levy, and he has delivered on this promise. The levy was a nuisance tax and affected our business, and so scrapping it comes as a relief for us and Ghanaians in general,” he opined.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he was optimistic that more Ghanaians will use mobile money services, which will, in the long term, have a positive impact on mobile money businesses.
