United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has reiterated that the relationship between her country and Ghana remains strong.
She said this after a closed-door meeting with Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, over a newly imposed 10% U.S. tariff on Ghanaian exports.
Details emerging indicate that the hour-long meeting focused on the negative impact the tariff will have on Ghana and its broader implications for trade relations between the two countries.
In an engagement after the meeting, the U.S. ambassador stated that “I had a great conversation with the minister of foreign affairs, and we talked about how the relationship with Ghana is very strong and how we can keep it going that way. The sort of detail of what the tariffs are and some things the United States and Ghana can do to improve the relationship.
She added that both sides remain committed to ongoing dialogue and cooperation.
