The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has asked lottery operators to stop deducting the 10% withholding tax on winnings from the effective date, April 2, 2025.
The GRA, in a statement, said this directive follows an amendment to the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) by Parliament and assented to by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to a statement issued by Commissioner General Mr Anthony Sarpong, the directive will have an impact on gaming, betting, lotteries, and any other games of choice.
”Players who are charged withholding tax on their winnings on or after 2nd April 2025 are entitled to a refund from the Lottery Operator.
Patrons are advised to keep receipts or electronic records of their transactions to facilitate any necessary refund process.”
