President John Dramani Mahama has maintained that the scrapping of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) was necessary.
He stated the scrapping of the levy was a strategic move aimed at enhancing digital financial services in Ghana.
The President made the remarks during his address at the Czech-Ghana Business Cooperation Seminar, held at the Mövenpick Hotel on Wednesday, April 8, 2025.
“In financial and digital services, Ghana is undergoing a rapid digital transformation. The recent repeal of the e-levy on electronic transactions, among other taxes, promises further growth and inclusion in digital financial services,” President Mahama stated.
The E-levy introduced by the previous administration imposed a 1% tax on transactions conducted through electronic or digital platforms, but the ruling government promised to scrap it.
President Mahama last week assented to the bills repealing the e-levy, betting tax, and emissions levy on Wednesday, April 02, 2025.
Other bills assented to by the president are the Value Added Tax (VAT) Amendment Bill, Income Tax Amendment Bill 2025, Petroleum Revenue Management Amendment Bill 2025, Public Financial Management Amendment Bill, Earmarked Funds Capping and Realignment Bill, Energy Sector Levy Act, the Gold Board Bill 2025 and the Growth and Sustainability Levy Act.
