The Central Laboratory of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is set to organise an open day on April 16, 2025.
The Open Day will start at 10:30 AM in the Central Lab car park.
Activities earmarked for the day include health screening, a lab tour and exhibition, and the unveiling of the accreditation certificate.
This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Association (GAMLS) of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr Gloria Amegatcher, on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
She said the facility, which has been in existence since 2023, is run by highly trained personnel made up of biomedical scientists, technicians, residents, consultants and support services personnel to provide a comprehensive analytical, diagnostic and advisory service in chemical pathology, haematology, microbiology and immunology.
She noted that the Open Day will coincide with the World Laboratory Day, which serves as an opportunity to recognise the crucial role of laboratories in healthcare, scientific progress, and safety.
The celebration is also to appreciate the dedicated scientists and technicians who work in laboratories.
According to Dr Amegatcher, the Central Lab has chalked success in receiving ISO accreditation, signifying its commitment to quality and competence in medical laboratory services.
”We have been pursuing this accreditation since 2010, with the primary objective of achieving international recognition. Through diligent efforts, we have successfully obtained ISO 15189, which establishes requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories. This accreditation signifies that the results from our central laboratory adhere to the highest standards of quality. We have implemented robust management systems to ensure the consistent quality of our results, which are internationally accepted.
So on April 16, 2025, we are organising the Open Day to allow our clients and the general public to come to the facility and see what we do. We will organise a float and a screening exercise, including free lab tests for HIV, typhoid, and hepatitis B. We will also organise a tour of the lab so our clients will see the equipment we have and the calibre of staff we have. We are doing this to build trust with our clients and to let them know that they trust our services,’’ she added.
